Happy Fathers Day! -- Anycubic Mega-S

AnyCubic Mega-S
My wife and daughter recently purchased the Anycubic Mega-S 3D printer for me for Fathers day. My daughter loves to make crafts, so I thought that this would be something we could do together and get a lot of value out of.

I got the unit setup in about an hour after reading the manual. One of the challenges I found was unpacking the thing was a bit a bit much for a first time 3D printeer (is that a thing?)

I was pleasantly surprised by the assortment of extra parts, a whole extra extruder, a toolset, a large kilogram spool of white PLA, and a few much smaller assortment of colored ones, wow. This is a full kit here, that's kind of neat.

Construction feels solid, I'm kind of impressed by it all if I'm honest, and at this price point? what's not to like?!

Level Up
This part took considerably the longest. Basically you hit home, then turn off the motors and then manually level all four corners. I found it easier to start with all 4 corners, with the springs fully compressed, then decompressing each corner as needed. With mine, when I leveled all the four corners and moved the head from left to right it would crash into the center. That seems like not a good thing, but I'm new to this, maybe that is OK?

First Print
My first print was the obligatory owl that comes on the SD card.  Wow, I cancelled the print at 50% because it came with TWO owls, and I was already satisfied with the print quality. At this point, I dismissed the original leveling issue, if the print was good, how could there be a problem? (The problem didn't exist in the center, just, everywhere else)

Buyers Remorse
I picked a whole bunch of things to print from a paw patrol cookie cutter to an ocarina for my daughter. After about 8 hours, I realized that some of the printing on the right hand side was getting corrupted and cancelled the print. I tested the base, and everything looked straight, it was now that I questioned the levelling issue from before.

Support
I found the Anycubic leveling youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJiJJn7Ybf8) which describes the process (in text at the bottom of the video) and, found an online horror story with the same symptoms of the corners leveled but the center was still raised despite a flat build surface  (https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/anycubic-i3-mega/forums/general/topic:18001) The result? A bent Y axis shaft and tilted mount. I kind of wasn't looking for this kind of time investment on the first day, you know. I contacted Anycubic support.

Anycubic Support
I was quickly responded to and directed back to the youtube video for initial triage. After removing the hot plate, I was shocked to find that not only was the left shaft bent, but the left rear fixed block was twisted and tilted. I did what I could to re-adjust which seems to have fixed the Z axis, but there was still a problem with the X axis. I removed the Y rods and they were also bent. Fun... I reported this all to Anycubic support, lets see what happens...
