Things I forgot to mention bout kitty

Some things I neglected to mention when buying a kitty... 1) Transportation kennel thinige 2) Spray bottle(s) -- I bought 3 (Check the dollar store) 3) Stone Skin level 4 4) Patience by the bucket Of all the things I've bought, I think Sado likes his chinese plastic soup spoon the most, and the RC car the ABSOLUTE worst. He hisses when I drive it around. I've also used broken down old boxes to make barriers around my computers so that he doesn't chew on the wires And last, an online album! Check the on the right hand side under "Links" for "My kitten Sado" ------------>

New Kitten Considerations

For all those out there that are also considering getting a kitten or cat, here are some things to think about before making the purchase. If your thinking about buying a kitten, you may want to also consider getting one from a shelter. This not only saves money, but saves lives. google "yourcity Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals" would be a good start. If your thinking about declawing, you may want to reconsider, see www.declawing.com for more information. Some things to ask before you buy (If your doing it via e-mail/phone skip the visual questions if you can actually see the cat.. :p ) *Physical* Age: Sex: male/female Neutered: yes/no (Spayed) Color: Claws: Front/back Size: runt/small/medium/large pictures (if any) *History* Wounds/Viruses/Deformaties: No/Yes, please specify History: Immunization (Deworming etc) Once you have your new pet, here are some things to consider purcahsing. I checked petsmart.com for most of these, your local store should sell sim...

Life Questions

One of the questions about life is, is this all there is? Is there more to this existence than what we see? At first glance, one would tend to say no, but that is only Man's ignorance. To break it down, now that technology is so wide spread, we have wireless networks, 10's of thousands of megabits of data all around us. Yet, we cannot see it, and without the right equipment, we cannot send nor receive this vast amount of data, I believe, this is the same theory can be applied to anything else. As much as we think that we are "only human" most of our bodies work off of electrical signals. How much of what we think and perceive is actually real? It makes sense that if we did have said equipment to interpret and interact with all the things around us, we haven't used it in a 100's of years, it's not suprising that it happens, and less suprising that we have little control over when / how it happens. Some random things I found on the internet: - It is Negative...

Testing Ubuntu Server and Networking, PHP5,Apache2,MySQL

Want to test out Ubuntu? Get VMware Player and this Virtual Appliance : Networking In Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft: I don't cover DHCP here, I don't know why you'd want that for a server... Setting a static IP in ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft : Assuming your NIC is eth1, if yours is eth0, use that instead :) Edit /etc/network/interfaces and add the following at the bottom: auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address [IP] netmask [netmask - i.e. 255.255.255.0] network [network ip, i.e. 192.168.0.0] broadcast [broadcast address, eg. 192.168.0.255] gateway [gateway IP (Router/Modem)] dns-nameservers [DNS-ServersIPs] Now to see the changes #sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart PHP5 / Apache 2 / MySQL with Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft I haven't fully tested this yet. I Got PHP5, Apache2, and MySQL up and going in seconds.. (I'm scared too) You'll probably want to be able to shell in: #sudo apt-get install ssh Next, we'll install MySQL 5 #sudo apt-get install mysql-server Next we'll inst...

Sippin on Gin and Juice...

I really should save all my digg favourites, meh, another day, another lost link. Come to think of it (and after some googling) back in 2004 google was indexing about 4 million sites, by the looks of, it seems it's indexing more than twice that amount today. BF2142 works finally, and all I had to do was buy the DVD copy, now why didn't I do this when I first bought the game is beyond me, oh and is it ever smooooth, at last! I'm going to have to try turning up the FSAA a bit more, see how far we can go, but I have no way to see how many FPS I'm getting unless I install fraps or something. Backups, you never realize how important they are, until you need them. Isn't that the truth, you'd be suprised how many production networks in large companies do not take enough back ups (or any at all!) Oh well, off to endulge in a backwoods.

Sexy Time!

OK, well it looks like my old GeForce 6800 has kicked the bucket, I've replaced it with a marked down GeForce 7900 GTX. The card is MASSIVE and nearly covers my SATA connections, and the northbridge (The old card sat over the northbridge as well) We've moved to the Hammer (Hamilton) one thing is, this ain't scarlem. The 20 minute drive to work in the morning is a welcome change (from the hour+ drive I used to have to make) but the place is nice, got some good deals on some merchandise (Thank you The Brick -- Don't pay a cent for a year or something -- There goes my bonus..) Finally my disdane for EA has grown to astronomical proportions. Fine I have to download your stupid game over and over and watch the install fail, the game not start, or get a duplicate GUID, so after re-downloading the stupid game OVER AND OVER I get some message that EA is blocking my installation attempt to prevent piracy, yes, because I'm going to pirate your piece of shit game, then attempt...

SpeedFan 4.28

This is a really neat utility, it allows you to change all kinds of values to do with your fan speeds, even reads and diagnoses SMART drives (Even if your drive hasn't failed yet) gives charts for those that like that stuff, info about memory (timing etc) but it's nice to just see the temperature of the system, it would be nice if all this was logged somewhere, but i suspect such things would take retarded amounts of space... or not.. (tar, gzip) Without further ado, I give you SpeedFan. :) http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

Daemon Tools 4x and KB914784

When I updated my XP x64 box, I got this mystereous error: "Initialization error. This program requires at least windows 2000 with SPTD 1.21 or higher. Kernel debugger must be deactivated." The solution is to uninstall patch KB914784. AFAIK my box is secure and stable without it. boo urns!

Removing the mouseover effects in SuSE 10.1

I hate those stupid mouse overs, and the option box is quietly tucked away. Here's how to disable it. :) Click on personal settings -> Desktop -> Panels -> Appearance Toggle "Enable icon mouseover effects"

Networking

Checking the current settings: ifconfig -a The -a will make it show all interfaces (both up and down) Bringing down an interface ifconfig down ie: ifconfig eth0 down Note: You can also use ifdown Bringing down an interface ifconfig up ie: ifconfig eth0 up Note: You can also use ifup Setting the IP, Netmask, and Gateway: modify the /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth[tab-complete] : IPADDR='192.168.1.3' NETMASK='255.255.255.0' GATEWAY='192.168.1.1' If your using DHCP: modify the /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth[tab-complete] : BOOTPROTO='dhcp' DHCP Client Usage: dhcpcd -k : Sends SIGHUP signal to the dhcpcd process that is currently running. This will send a DHCP release, and destroy the dhcpcd cache. dhcpcd -n : Sends SIGALRM signal to the dhcpcd process that is currently running which forces dhcpcd to try to renew the lease Files: (These are usually tab delimited) /etc/hosts: This is where you can create a lists of known hosts. Codec Installs

This site has a good site for getting all the codec's to work in SuSE 10.1 using rug http://susediary.blogspot.com/2006/05/fresh-start-and-fresh-approach.html Watching Rurouni Kenshin as we speak. :)

Let there be sound!

I'm not sure why, but sound is a bit flakey in SuSE 10.1. Here are some commands: user: alsamixer root: alsaconf alsactl (not sure how to use this, haven't bothered to google) If your using XMMS you may need the new MP3 decompressor, you can get it here: http://www.filewatcher.com/m/xmms-mpg123-1.2.10-4.i386.rpm.86281.0.0.html (for XMMS 1.2.10) I had to do a rpm -ivh xmms-mpg123-1.2.10-4.i386.rpm -nodeps (Don't laugh, it worked..) Also, for some reason X got re-linked back to the original binary, I'm not sure why, but it disabled my XGL. Relinked, and all was good again in the Land.

VMware Workstation 5.5 with OpenSuSE 10.1

For the full rundown, see this page: http://en.opensuse.org/Setting_up_VMware_on_SUSE_Linux Prerequisites: gcc gcc-c++ kernel-source kernel-syms make (this is probably already installed) Installation: Prepare the Host System for Building Kernel Modules 1. Open a Terminal window 2. Use su to become root 3. Change to /usr/src/linux directory, and run the following command: make cloneconfig 4. Run the following command: make modules_prepare Install VMware Workstation from RPM YaST is able to install the RPM for VMware Workstation on SUSE Linux without any problem. You can get the RPM-based installer for VMware from www.vmware.com. Also, VMware will provide you with a 30-day evaluation license to try the product before you buy it. After applying the RPM for VMware, DO NOT run the VMware configuration script (/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl). It will not work properly yet. Download and Apply vmware-any-any-update Download the latest vmware-any-any-update from http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware. This updat...

Double Click Behaviour in KDE

From http://developer.kde.org/documentation/standards/kde/style/mouse/index.html "KDE is designed to make use of either single-clicks or double-clicks, but the default is single-click mode. The reason for this is that double-clicks are hard to learn for new users and can cause RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury). To accommodate users who are already used to double-clicking and who don't want to change, as well as to accommodate users who work on a daily basis with systems that require double-clicks, KDE will allow the user switch to double-click mode on a system-wide basis. Otherwise, a double-click is treated as one single-click." If you like single click (I accidently click sometimes when trying to move stuff around and such) go into Control Center, click on Peripherals and then Select Mouse, under General there will be an option to "Double click to open files and folders (select icons on first click)" select that. Viola! :)

VMware Server with Monowall

If you use the regular Monowall build on the VMware site, you'll notice one shortcoming, the vlance driver. :) If you'd like to modify that image yourself see this page: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=35543&tstart=0 At the bottom, there is a pre-built image to use http://www.xs4all.nl/~brugh/ Use that one. :) Uuuuuseeee it! With the old one I had random and frequent monowall hangs that could only be fixed with a soft reset of monowall from the console. You will want to disable the Host OS screensaver (This shouldn't cause a security issue because people should not be staying logged in anyway right?) if your using a hosted product. I've found that when I use Server in conjunction with UltraVNC, UltraVNC spikes to 50-60% CPU at times, so I've turned that off. You can turn it on and off using RPC calls from the windows Services widget, so it's not much of an inconvience having to turn it back on. The vmxnet driver has yielded some great up...

Floater days :)

Image
a Floater day is just a nice way of saying 'playing hookie', at least that's what it feels like (Why didn't they have this shit when I was in high school?).  Good thing I took the day off because the brakes on the RSX need to be replaced. I'm thinking it's either the factory old rotors, or, the ABS somehow, I dunno, but you would think the mechanic would have seen this when I took it in, and advised me of this problem ahead of time. meh...  I was playing BF2 last night, omg, I don't mind when one or two of my team mates are unskilled, but man, when it's my entire team boat anchoring, it's kinda hard to win.  I've also started playing BattleField 2142, here's the trailer     Read the review here

BF2: The Battle Field 2 - 1.3 Patch Horrors

Nice going EA.. I needed to clean my registry anyways, so I ended up re-istalling... Windows. This is how I got mine going, I had to go through all of these steps, maybe one of the less evasive ones will work for you, or just skip to the more evasive. What was happening to me was that I was getting kicked back to the desktop after loading (or half loading) the map, I would also crash on re-optomizing the video (at 60-62%). From reading a bit on the EA forums, I've come to the following conclusions... Non evasive: (These didn't work for me, but may for you) 1) Try just changing the audio to software decoding only 2) Force the game to re-optomize the pixel shaders etc by changing the screen res 3) Rename the "Battlefield 2" directory in your My Documents, this will wipe your custom settings. 4) Refresh your video card driver and DirectX --- --- Evasive: (This did) 5) Uninstall BF2 6) Install BF2 original 7) Install BF2 Special Forces (Also will patch) 8) Install BF2 1....
